About Cousin Eddie From National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The tale begins with Cousin Eddie, employed at his most recent workplace, a nuclear facility, where he shares duties with a chimpanzee. When the chimpanzee surpasses him in every test, particularly mental agility, he decides to terminate Eddie's employment (to nobody's surprise). Upon learning about the dismissal, an argument ensues between them, resulting in the chimpanzee biting him.
Concerned about the impact of losing his job on his family with Christmas approaching, Eddie decides to talk with his former boss. Unbeknownst to him, the nuclear company anticipates a potential lawsuit and, as a preventive measure, offers him, his family, Audrey Griswold, and Uncle Nick a complimentary vacation to a South Pacific island. During the holiday, they embark on a boat trip. While attempting to catch a shark, he leads them astray, and they end up stranded on an isolated island.
In due course, Eddie demonstrates his ability to provide for his family, and they joyously celebrate Christmas together on the island. Shortly afterward, they are rescued, although he is unexpectedly tasked with safely landing the rescue plane when the pilot becomes incapacitated. Upon successfully landing, he discovers he has been reinstated in his job!
