King Triton is the ruler of the sea and wants to do his best to protect his daughter Ariel. Unfortunately, Ariel falls in later with a human who isn't allowed and requires him to show some tough love to his daughter. Unfortunately, the human world doesn't like it. Doing something like this could potentially change the world if these two were to have a child together. For the sake of the world, both parties don't want that to happen. King Triton is really old but still wants what will make his daughter happy. He reflects later on and considers that there could've been an error in the way he was thinking.

Some may think his character is tied exclusively to The Little Mermaid, but this is not the case. King Triton has also made appearances in the video game series "Kingdom Hearts," where his character arc is largely the same. His character is a bit freer than other kinds of groups that aren't native to the sea world. Overall, Triton is a father king first who wants the best for his daughter, Ariel.
